Paula’s noble cowshed received the make over of it’s life as the committee worked their magic and converted this humble manger into an Hawaiian Island for the guys and girls of the Bay to dance the night away.
From twinkling lights to massive flora, from magical sunset (complete with man eating shark) to funky shell bracelets the place was transformed. The party started slowly thanks to the rain, which on que bucketed down but Paula’s weatherproofed roof was a triumph.
Fancy dress, not for these partygoers? Never. Everyone turned out in their most authentic pacific island gear. Grass skirts and Lei’s everywhere. Shell bangles and beads, flowers in the hair. What a sight for drink soddened eyes we were.
Our visitors from Auckland slipped into the party spirit and again there was a new member to join the happy band of gay folks in the Bay. Welcome Chris.
Slipped neatly into the evening’s entertainment was the traditional Hula and Limbo competitions. Jurgen took the prize in the Hula event with a novel twist. Forever he will be known to the Hula Hoop world as Dick Fosbie is to the high jump world. Fosbie invented the Fosbie Flop which transformed high jump competitions. Jurgen invented the Toffeeturn Twerl. A magnificent way of keeping the Hula Hoop still whilst he span around inside it. Believe me when I say it just had to be seen to be believed.
Ka took the prize in the Limbo with some very deft movements.
Another great night and all thanks must go to those hard working committee members who slaved away to make the night such a success. Well done guys, a magnificent job.
For those of us who elected to stay the night bed was long in coming thanks to chatting through to the wee small hours. Well actually it was the large big hours for the morning!! Breakfast was the magnificent feast that a GITB breakfast has become and thanks again goes to those who slaved away over a hot BarBQ.
